Don’t Ignore Neck or Back Pain After an Accident

If we could give one piece of advice to every accident victim, it would be this: Seek full and complete medical attention immediately after the accident, and go back to the doctor if you experience new symptoms.

It is a sad result when an accident victim is denied full compensation for injuries because the attorney cannot prove that the accident caused the injuries or pain. Especially when a car accident or slip and fall results in delayed neck or back pain, causation becomes a major point of argument between the injured person’s lawyer and the insurance company.

This is one reason that we prefer to start representation as soon as possible after the accident. We know very well that we are not medical professionals. However, at Reeder & Nussbaum, P.A., we are experienced personal injury attorneys. We can encourage our clients to seek full medical attention and encourage them to return to the doctor if they experience delayed pain, especially back pain or a neck injury.

If you were in a car accident or other accident:

  • Get a complete medical check-up as soon as possible after the accident, and describe fully any pain or symptoms. Do not minimize any pain. If possible, get an assessment and treatment from a specialist instead of your general practitioner.
  • Pay special attention to headaches, neck pain and back pain. Return to the doctor if you experience any symptoms. Request reasonably necessary tests like MRIs and CT scans to determine whether you have a brain injury, herniated discs, post-traumatic osteoporosis, a serious muscle strain or other injury.
  • Follow the treatment recommendations of your doctors. If you cannot afford rehabilitation services or cannot miss work to attend rehabilitation, discuss this with your attorney.
